I spent hours looking for honest reviews on the Lemon Detox Diet but did not find anything detailed or easy to read. So I decided to try the product myself and help you guys make an informed decision before buying. Busting that belly fat is tough and I’m sure one of the biggest question is “does this product work?” and “is it really safe?”.

What is the Lemon Detox Diet?
This diet has become widespread and popular, especially by celebrities such as Beyonce Knowles and Angelina Jolie just to name a few. But did it really work for them and how spectacular were their transformations before and after. Let’s take a look at their pictures below.

Angelina had used the diet to slim up for her upcoming role in the movie salt and we can see that Beyonce’s transformation was quite amazing.
So how does this diet work? This program is a liquid diet that lasts for 7 to 10 days. The strict version of the program encourages you not eat solid foods or any other liquids besides water during the time. The liquid diet is pretty much a lemonade solution. It contains lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne pepper and water. Sounds pretty simple? It definitely is.
So why try the Lemon Detox Diet?
- Rapid cleanse or detox of the body – Toxins and poisons can build up and accumulate in the body leading to poor nutrient absorption, feeling tired and weight gain. By clearing out these toxins you allow the body to recover and ‘reset’ itself back to normal levels.

After initially opening the kit it didn’t seem like much at all. You almost feel that the price is a little dear compared to what you get but let’s run through the contents and see.

While you could probably get most of the ingredients from the local shop I think it’s important to get the proper kit so exact instructions can be followed. Since this is a review on the actual program itself.

My Experience and Story with the Program
Having done fitness for over 9 years I had been quite skeptical before trying these program. I’m not a big fan of crazy fasts, apple or cabbage diets simply they lead to rapid muscle loss and increased weight gain after the diet. So what’s different with the Lemon Detox Diet?
- The program helps alkalize the body (Bacteria thrive in acidic environments. Most people have an acidic pH level in their bodies)
- There is a reduction in calories but this is not too extreme, although less than normal. The lemon juice and maple syrup equate to roughly 1000 calories. On a weight loss diet I would consume around 1600 calories.
- The program is not just about reduced calories or starvation. It is in fact neither. By eliminating toxins the body will naturally shed weight faster and clean itself.
- Many friends who recommended me the diet had rapid weight loss, increased energy levels and have kept it off (For those that followed it exactly).
I believe a picture speaks a thousand words so here are my before and after picture to prove show that the detox diet did work.
To be honest, I found that after the first day the diet was extremely easy. I believe this is because I am already quite healthy and I followed the instructions exactly and made some minor adjustments. While I didn’t do it for the weight loss, I found the fat came off incredibly fast after day 2. I felt incredible at the end of the program.
Here are the benefits I experienced during the 7 days of the program.
- Lost 3.8kg and 2.4% body fat
- Gain increased energy levels
- Acne and blemishes completely cleared up
- Found cardio and aerobics much easier to do with the increased energy
- Lost all cravings for junk food and even meat (I am used to eating 5-7kg of meat a week for weight lifting)
- Started enjoying the tastes of vegetables and healthy food after the 7 days
- Lost a lot fat in stubborn areas especially my legs and abdominals.

The Good (Pros)
It helps to know the benefits of a detox program before we try it so let’s cover the pros.
- Effective weight loss – As shown above the weight came off.
- Effective and rapid detox – My acne cleared up completely in 3-4 days. I felt increased energy levels and healthy food tasted so much better after the program. Unhealthy food actually tastes way too sweet and fatty. Once you clean your system it runs more efficiently.
- Simple and easy – If you follow the instructions exactly its easy to do. First 1-2 days is the toughest but it just becomes routine after that. Fasting is actually much easier than dieting because there is only one answer to food … “No”. When you are dieting it can be tough to build mental discipline because you have to make decisions all the time about whether food is right for you or not. Fasting from solid foods for a short time allows you to build mental discipline.
- Easy Preparation - This is what I loved the most. I prepared two 1 litre solutions of lemonade mix a day which was enough to keep me from feeling hungry. The only other ingredients I needed was water and lemons. This is a contrast to other programs that require different pills, fruits, vegetables, juices and other supplements.
- Tastes Good – I actually loved the taste of the lemon detox mix although some people hate it. I find you have to mix it exactly to instructions to get that nice balance. I also love spicy foods so the cayenne pepper was great for me.
- Kept the weight off - If you stick to exercising regularly and eating healthy you will keep the weight off.
The Bad (Cons) and How to Avoid Them
Of course every product has a few cons and side effects and I will cover what they are and how to avoid them.
- Some people have experienced nausea, headaches and sickness.
- Some people find it hard to adjust to not eating and feel hungry all the time.
- Lack of variety. It is just lemonade.
- Not a long term solution.
- Salt flush is extremely tough to do, especially at the start.
- Constant need to go to the toilet.
Water is essential in the program. I found that most people who got sick or headaches did not drink enough water. I drank 3-5 litres of water in regularl intervals throughout the day and did not experience any headaches of dizziness. Water helps flush out the toxins in the body. If you don’t drink water you will feel sick as toxins are released into the body.
With the exception of the first half of day one I never felt hungry on the program. Here’s a secret tip I discovered. Number 1 prepare 1 litre of solution at a time. It is much easier. Put it in a flash and sip it in small intervals every 20-30 minutes or less throughout the day. If you drip feed your body with the lemon drink it is much easier to do than drinking 1 glass at once then waiting another 1-2 hours before drinking the next glass. I also ran 7kms a day for the whole program. Why? Doing light to moderate exercise helps the body get rid of waste by using the lymphatic system.
Lack of variety makes it easy to follow and hard to follow the wrong instructions. It is also not a long term solution. While it is a great way to get started before a weight loss program, you have to remember that if you go back to old habits of binge eating on junk food and not exercising you will gain the weight back. If eating crap and living an unhealthy lifestyle got you to where you are today, it will get you there again.
The other part of the program that most people might find uncomfortable is the salt flush. You need to drink 1 litre of salt water in the morning after waking up. This is best done with warm to hot (not burning or scalding) water. It’s important not to drink this slowly else the body will absorb it. Drink it all at once and as fast as you can. Then make sure to drink plenty of water straight after. Yes you will might feel like vomiting. After day one it gets much easier.
Also make sure to do the salt flush at least 1 hour or more before work. Else you might find might yourself messing your pants. The salt flush is pretty much a laxative designed to make sure you have daily bowels movements to flush your system. Besides this, you will visit the toilet frequently throughout the day due to the increased liquid intake from the lemon mix and from the 3-5 litres of water a day.
Nothing too crazy of life threatening but make sure to follow my tips and the instruction manual for the best experience!
The Bottom Line
Did the program deliver as promised? It sure did. While it was no walk in the park I found it worth it and I would definitely do it again. The increased levels in energy, the disappearance of my acne and the loss in body fat simple was far more than I had hoped for.
